It's not typical for me to get good likeness in my drawings without a great deal of effort- let alone on my first sketch attempt at a new face.
I'm admitting rather late in life that the lessons in drawing that I thought I should have adhered to were not followed in this particular drawing and that's why I think it is turning out so well- to my mind anyway ( Trekkies feel free to say otherwise! ) - which is why I posted the incomplete sketch-turning-into-proper-portrait.
I'm obviously pleased so far and will try to finish it tomorrow.

I'm sure everyone was told to 'draw the ovals and divide the face into lines' which is all well and good- unless it goes against your natural inclinations which in my case is to focus first on the symmetrical shape that begins with 2 eyes, followed by a nose that tapers down into a wide bottomed heart. I think I would have been further ahead with art if I had just followed the natural inclination instead of doing what I thought was the 'correct thing'. (Cardassian and The Tailor)
